Dr. Peter Giacobbe, BSc, MD, FRCPC


Dr. Giacobbe is a staff psychiatrist at the University Health Network (UHN), where he serves as the Head of the ECT service. He has appointments in both the Division of Mood and Anxiety Disorders and the Division of Geriatric Psychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto. Dr. Giacobbe’s clinical and research interests focus on the development and evaluation of novel neuromodulatory treatment strategies for individuals with treatment-resistant mood disorders.

Dr. Giacobbe has been involved in the Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) study for Treatment-Resistant Depression project at UHN since 2004, and has developed expertise in the pre- and post-operative psychiatric management of patients receiving DBS, including the programming of DBS devices. He has published papers on the topic of neuromodulation in the American Journal of Psychiatry, Biological Psychiatry, Experimental Neurology and the Journal of Neurosurgery.
